-V very large number of players took part in the final mixed foursomes of the season on Saturday, and the links presented quite an. imposing sight. Tlie game lias been very popular this season, and with the acquisition of new?'links for next year there should he a troom in this popular branch of sport. Tho game has made tremendous strides in New Zealand during the last few years, and one can now play in almost every town in tho Dominion. During tho last fortnight Hood, tlie Auckland professional, has been busy coaching, and the committee are considering the advisability of securing his services for a longer period, when* the club is ready to open the new course, which will ho one of the best in the Dominion. Tlie standard of play should ho largely improved, and in course of time there is no reason why the club should not be able to put into the field a team capable of securing some of the trophies and challenge cups now held by more powerful institutions. CYCLING. AVARRNAAIBOOL-MELBOURNE ROAD RACE. NEAV RECORD PUT UP. United Press Association —Cop/right (Received Sept. 28, 5.33 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 28. Tho AVarrnambool to Alelbournc road race resulted as follows: Dobie, Victoria, 42mins, 1; Oaks, Victoria, SOmins, 2; AVillis, Victoria, 60mins, 3. Two hundred and thirty others started, which constituted a world’s record. The race was won by about a quarter of a mile. The conditions for the race were unfavorable. The roads were sloppy owing to rain. Nevertheless, some splendid work was done. Dobie, the winner, left AVarrnambool at (5.13 in the morning, and reached Melbourne at 1.57 p.m. Oaks was the next to finish, about a quarter of a mile behind. Then came AA'illis. Oaks’s time was 8 hours 24 minutes 47 seconds, and Willis’s 8 hours 7 minutes 42 seconds. Larcomb, who was at scratch, made the fastest- time—7 hours 40 minutes 10 seconds —lowering J. Arnst’s record by over 3 minutes. -Larcomb finished fifteenth. The second fastest time was put up by Birch (New Zealander), who, riding from the 24 minutes’ mark, completed the course in 7 hours 43:1 minutes.

Dobie is 6ft 2in in height, and weighs 13st. Oaks has only one arm. Larcomb. who rode unpaced from Colac. punctured his tyre near Geelong, causing a delay of 10 -minutes.
