MATAWHERO STOCK SALES.

The usual fortnightly sale of stock took place at the Matavvhero yards yesterday. There was a good attendance. The entry of sheep, as is customary at this time of year was small, hut there was a fairly large entry of store cattle, tlio numbers being swelled by a mob of 380 which had been driven over from Taranaki. These were sold by Messrs. Onlgety and Co., and were bought on behali of various station owners. The sale conducted by Messrs. Common, Shelton and Co. and Dainty and Co. commenced at 11 o’clock. 1000 sheep were submitted the hulk of which were cleared readily at tlio following figures: 21 fat ewes 14 s 6d, 29 ewes (in lamb to English Leicester rams) 9s 9d, 40 fat ewes 15s, 41 do. 14s, 20 do. 13s lu. 7 hoggets 9s 9d, 24 mediumm do. 10s, ;-86 2-tootli wethers 16s 7d. The yarding of cattle totalled ah: ut 400 and included the Taranaki Pile already mentioned. The prices v.-.-ro as follows: 5 fat cows £5 each 20 station cows (old) £2, 33 younger do. £2 17s, 38 do. £2 15s, 63 station heifers £3 ss, 20 do. £3, 107 do. £2 10s, 41 18-month-old lieifors £1 10s. A few pigs were offered, but failed to find purchasers. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., and tlio Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company commenced their sale at "11.30. The entry of sheep totalled about 2500. Eats mei with a fair demand, but stores were hard to quit. the sales were: 3 fat hoggets at 15s Id, 30 ewes at 14s 9d, 20 at 15s, 1:5 at 16s. 178 ewes ill lamb at 12s Id, 100 at 12s Bd, 95 at 14s, 187 hoggets at 10s

6d. About 170 head of cattle wc yarded,- the majority consisting < inferior sorts for which the sale w; exceedingly*dull. Bight beef cor brought up to £3 17s Od, small stec. to £3 10s, store yearlings £1 14s. A few pigs were offered, porkc realising up to 255.
