Over one million - mackerel were landed at Newlyn, Cornwall, a short time ago. It was possible to purchase forty for a shilling. In the Crimean War 31 per cent of all the soldiers engaged were killed or died of disease. In the FrancoGerman War the Germans lost only 8 per cent of their men. It is estimated +«hat before the law was passed prohibiting the sale of cocaine in Maryland in 1906, 70 per cent of the prisoners in the police courts of Baltimore used the drug.
