These (in the form of. a report from tlie captain) were submitted at a meeting of the board yesterday afternoon, and were as follows: —Means should he provided for readily doubling the lilocks for about 100 ft in the centre of the dock, also at each end for about 20ft. (2) The blocks should be permanently raised to, say, 4ft. For vears they were 3ft Sin, now they are 3ft 4in, which is too low for repairs or conveniently scrubbing or painting bottoms. (3) The appointment of a shipwright and diver combiued if available to the permanent stall of ti o dock, with dress and pump. (4) That every alternate block he left solid without cradle or wedges as at present, and that pohutakawa if procurable be used for additional new blocks. As' far as the test went, when the Mamari was in the second time it proved itself incomparably better than ironhark. The harbormaster in the course of his report stated that the kauri shores at Calliope dock were much given to buckling, thereby being somewhat weakened He had been very strongly advised to obtain Oregon pine shores, which did not buckle. As it was •ertain that many more shores would bo used in future for securing a vessel in dock, lie requested that 40 Orego i pine shores lie provided as early as possible. He also reported that some of the keel blocks in the Auckland dock were worn out or were ill bad order. He requested that they should all be examined for damage by toiedo worm or from any other cause, and that all be put in good order.
