3 OPENING OF ROYAL COMMISSION 1 'i 1 o 1 (Per Fsesa Association.) , Napier, last night, i Tho Royal Commission appointed to enquire into the administration of the Te Auto Education Trust lands resumed its sittings to-day. Tho only evidence taken to-day was that of Bishop Williams, one of the trustees. Ho stated that the lands of tho trust were leased to Archdeacon S. Williams. The annual revenue was used in the maintenance of tbe Te Aute College School and the Hukarere Native Girls’ Sohool. The trustees approved of tbe system of education id tho schools, though I they did not interfere in the details of the management, whioh in the casa of the Te Aute sohool was in tho hands of the headmaster and tbo Archdeacon, and of tbe Hnkarere sohool by Miss Williams, Tbe accounts in connection with the trust funds were submitted annually to the Waiapu Diocesan Synod, and triennially to tbe General Synod. The present t.enant bad been in possession for many years, and the trustees considered ho was entitled to some consideration in the way of renewal. Before entering into tbo existing lease, which was exeouted about two or three years Bgo, and is for twelve years, a valuation of the-property was made by an independent and competent'vsluor, arid they also hud the land lax valuations, i Tbe present rent was considered a per- i feotly fair one, pairing these valuations into consideration.
