PALMERSTON TRAGEDY
(Per Press Association.) Palmerston N-trill, last night. Wm. Knowles, on reman), was charged at tho 8 M. Court to-day with the murder of his Wiio, Martha Adeila Ann Knowles, at Palmerston Noth on April U’Sca. A witness for tho prosecution stated ha had seen accused chasing his wife along the path. Ho caught her and, during tho struggling that followed, two flashes of smoke were sbod, followed by repocts Deceased fell ioto tho water channel, and aooused returned to tho house occupied by hie wife. In a few minutes ho returned to decoased, and remarked to those gathered, " I am going to have a last kiss. I suppose it will bo the last. I expect I will be strung for it.” Ho knelt and kissed her, and as he rose was securod by the bystanders. A revolver was taken -rf f om his coat pocket. As it wa3 taken aooused remarked, " It’s no good. If it had been any use I would be dead now. He voluntarily handed over the cartridges left, and was then arrestsd by tho police. Koowles was committed for trial at the June sitting of the Supreme Court at \ Palmerston North,
