MEIKLE COMMISSION

Dunedin, last night,
I Tho Commission concluded taking evidonco ro-day, and leave for Wellington in the morning William Lambert’s evidoboe varied but slightly from that givtn at the trial of Meikle. Prior to being engaged by the Company in connection with the sheepstealing on tbeir estate, bo had been woikiug for Conatabie Lreoe as bailiff, and doing somoprivato detective work, There was never any arrangement for anyone to put skins on Meikie’s place. Before entering tho Company's employ he did not suspect Meikle was the thief. Ho never told Meikle that be was to get £SO for putting skins into Meiklo’s smithy, so as to get him convicted. Witness put no skins whatever on Meikie’s place. He said the Company paid £SO in instalments to his wife. He only saw Cameron once, and then in company with Troup. He aiways held that he was wrongfully convioted of perjnry.
Witness was cross-examined by Mr Atkinson, but he did not vary in his testimony. Troup, recalled, said he bad heard about a letter written by Meikle about suiDg the Company for £SOOO, but he had never seen i , and Lambert was mistaken in suppoe« ing be had given it to witness.
