The senior crews of tho Gisborne and Poverty ]3>y sheds fried conclusions on Eday evening over the Taruhoru twomile course. The result of the race could “ have prevented Poverty Bay sepqnng the Licensed Victuallers’ Challenge Shield. wins in the junior and ten-stone orews entitling th in to bold the Shield for ho next twelve months. There was naturally lebi interest shown than there would have been had tbo issue been a deciding one. A very large crowd gathered, however, to see the final and much interest was shown in the race. When the oraws esme in view Poveity Bav had a very substantial lead, but in the run to the post the Gisborne men considerably roduoed the gap, and in the last fifty yards, the leaders easing down, there SI less than half a boat length between thß orews when they passed the sheds, .
