A BRUTAL ASSAULT
WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN AND
ROBBED,
Auckland, Tuesday. A lady rondont of Mount Roskill Read, io the Mouut Eden district, was bruially assaulted and robbed last Wednesday Q jahl. Sho had been visiting some friends in Symonds slreet, and left for her home alono shortly after eleven o’olock. When only about a drum yards from her gate, some unknown man seized her, and as the lady resisted the assailant dr alt her a heavy blow, which stunned her. The robbi r then seiz’.d her purse and made off. leaving the lady lying on the ground. Shortly afterwards she recovered consciousness and managed to struggle to bar home in an exhausted condition. Mcdioal aid was summoned, and the lady was found bruised and suffering from severo shock. However, eheia nowprogresßing favorably. Fortunately the stolen purse only eon tained a few penos and a latch key. It is stated that about three weeks ago a similar occurrence took place at Mount Eden, and that a number of suspicious characters have been noticed prowling round the neigbborhotd of late.
