PREMIER’S TRIUMPHANT TOUR,

" SHOOTING OF LANDLORDS

(Par Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The Premier reached Roxburgh this evening, and had an enthusiastic reception. He addressed a crowded meeting in the evening, the local band playing him to the hall. The Mayor presided. Mr Seddon challenged the Opposition to bring forward a policy so that it could be contrasted with that of the Government, He replied at length to various statements by the Opposition members, and at the close received a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence in the Government. The Premier addressed a meeting at Alexandra at noon to-day, and was accordod a vote of thanks and confidence in the Government. Replying to Mr Massoy’s speech in the samo place, the Premier doclared the statement that a lessee had been informed his lease would be forfeited because he owed one shilling of rent was an entire fabrication. Ho had made onquirios, and could find no trace of anything of tho kind. This was a matter ho would give Mr Massey an opportunity of setting himself right about. He had said if the Irish landlords 25 years ago had threatened to evict a tenant for being a shilling in arrears, what would have happened ? Some one said, “ Shoot him,” and Mr Massey, the coming Premior, had said, “ Quite right.” 'lf it went out that tho coming Promier had said in a dispute between landlord and tenant tho landlord ought to be shot, what would people think of the colony ?
