STRAIGHT-OUT SOCIALISM
THE WORKER’S REPLY TO MR REID.

The newspaper Worker, in' an article doalmg with the forthcoming Labor Convention, says : —“ The Convention have to ask a serious question—what is tho aim and objoot of the Labor movement ? 'Free trade or protection makes no material difference in the conditions of labor. Experience in Australia showed that under both policies the wage-earners were robbed of the fruits of their industry. They have arbitration in New Zealand, New South Wales, and West Australia. In none of those States were the workers hotter off than in Queensland.” The Worker adds : “ The Labor movement must become consciously socialistic. Nothing short of a policy of straight-out socialism, vigorously and persistently pursued, will bo of much avail. Labor must not be revolutionary in its methods, but be revolutionary in itß aims.”
