Keefer. This evening the La Muscotto Quadrille Assembly hold a dance in.the Academy of Music. The Gisborne rainfall for July was 4.20 inches for 13 days of rain ; Tolago Bay, 6.39 inches for 8 days; Patutabi, 3.41 inches for 12 days. A very successful plain and fancy dress ball was hold in the Academy of Music last evening. Excellent music was provided by Mr A. E. James’s orchestra.

A concert and dance in aid of the Matawbero school funds will be hold in the Matawhero schoolroom this evening. Mr T. McCoomb’o brake loave3 town for the concert at 7.15.

At the meeting of tho Ratepayers’ Association last oveniDg some discussion took place on tho question of the poll in connection with tho water scheme. MrE. Smith stated that everyone he met appeared to b.o against either tho Waihirere or Waimata schemes, and somo against both. They might not want Mr Reynolds. soon as possible. Last evening a emul was given in TVhinray's Hall by the committee of the Maritime Quadiille Assembly, in order to take the opportunity of bidding farewell to Mr TV. Parker, who is about to leave the district. The hail was beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens, and pre aented a very pleasing appearance. There were upwards of forty couples present, and the' evening .was spent principally in dancing, which "was greatly enjoyed' by the company. Songs wore contributed by Messrs Gush, Goldsmith, and Stephenson. During the proceedings opportunity was taken to present Mr Parker with a handsome silver-mounted dressing case, suitably inscribed. Mr TV. Lewis, on behalf of the Maritana Assembly, made the presentation, and in a few appropriate words expressed the esteem in which Mr Parker was held. The latter responded feelingly, and thanked his numerous friends for their kindness. Mr G. Goldsmith acted ae M.C., whilst, the music was capably rendered by Misses Moore, Somervell, and Messrs Stephenson and Morell. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. The ball to bo held in the Academy of Music on Tuesday evening next in connection with the Gisborne Bowling Oiub promises to be a great success, members being most enthusiastic in regard to the function. Ac a largely-attended meeting of the Committee, held at the Masonic Hotel last evening, Mr TV. Pettie presided, and the reports of tho several committees were of a most favorable character. The necess'zvy number of tickets bad nearly all been disposed of among bowlers and their friendz, and it was anticipated that there would be a large and representative gathering. The following committees were appointed to compictp arrangements:— Refreshment Committee : Messrs T. Ac-air, E. Bobertson, TV. J. Hennessy, and TV. J. p. Gaudm. Programme Committee : Messrs A. TV. Adair, F. Eure, and lan Simson. Decoration Committee : Messrs A. TV. Adair, F. Eure, 0. Adair, Simson, and 0. H. TV. Dixon. Supper Committee : Messrs F. Pettie, Adair (3), TV. Gandm, F. Euro, TV. J. Cox, Dixon, K, N. Jones, and TV. J. Hennessy. Messrs A. TV. Adair, F. Eure, Simson, and Gaudin were appointed Masters of Ceremonies. The meeting adjourned until Friday evening at hal**past seven.
