Hokitika, last night. The Premier left for Ross at noon, where he formally opens the new town hall, returning to-morrow, and delivers an important political address in the evening. Some misunderstanding has evidently arisen in reference to the Premier’s re marks at- the interview with the Westland County Council on Wednesday evening, in regard to public works expenditure. What the Premier really did say was as follows ; —“The vote from the Public Works Fund for roads last year amounted to nearly half a million, and this year it would have to be cut down to about three hundred thousand pounds." |
