The first series of colonial wool sales for the current year opened with brisk bidding. Pricos ruled from par to ten per cent, advance on tho closing sales of last year.

FURTHER INCREASE IN PRICES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 12.32 a.m., Jan. 22. London, Jan. 21. At the wool sales 0965 bales of good selection, medium, and inferiors was offered. There was a good attendance, including many Americans. Xhero was spirited competition for sorts. Compared with the closing sales of tho December series, merinos were unchanged. Merino lambs advanced five per cent; fine crossbreds advanced five per cent, medium ten per cent, and lambs ten per cent.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, last night. At the local wool sales to-day a catalogue of 61100 bales were offered. Prices were in sympathy with the advance in the local market, and ruled from 10 to 15 per cent, higher than last sales rates. Amongst the buyers were three representatives of Continental firms. The advance was general in all classes, except for halfbred parcels, the rougher and coarser wools benefiting most. Merinos sold up to 9d ; good quality half-bred up to B£-d ; coarse crossbreds in light condition up to 6d ; fair average quality up to 5:,d ; dingy crossbreds up to o.Jd.
