Brown launched ;l 120-ton steamer for Messrs Kennedy and Evans, Gisborne, especially built for towage and the carriage of frozen meat. Her dimensions are i 17ft, depth of hold 7ft 6in, light draught sft. She leaves for Gisborne in about a fortnight. CHRISTCI-lURCI-I, Saturday. At the Old Age Pension Court this morning judgment was given in the case against William Shaw, charged with having obtained a pension by means of falsely representing that his wife bad no property. Mr Bishop, S. M., in dismissing the case, agreed to the contention of (lie defence that the knowledge of the existence or the wife’s property must be established against accused, as the result of a decision would inevitably be to open the door to fraud hard to be detected. After consultation with Mr Beteham, S M lie decided that where both husband ’ and wife were producable both must be produced and give evidence as io their means.
