; The Pollards open a three-night season here on Wednesday next, with “ The Messenger Boy,” which has met with surprising success wherever produced. The popularity of this musical comedy lies in the fact that the performance goes with a J swing from the rise of the curtain. One I of the most popular items is a duet entitled “Aspirations,” during the singing of which Mr \V. S. Percy and Miss Gertie Campion go through a series of sketches on the police, sailors, fire brigade, and bookmakers. Another character - that stands out prominently is that of Mrs Bang, as played, by Miss Alice Edgar. Mr Quealy as Captain Pott, known in fiction as Captain Kettle, is also responsible for much of the success of the piece. “Patience” and “The Gondoliers,” to be staged on the Thursday and Friday respectively, are by Gilbert and Sullivan, and are sure to be appreciated by lovers of legitimate comic opera. The box plan is now open for inspection at Miller’s, and as the booking promises to be brisk, especially for the “Boy,” intending patrons would do well to make early application for seats.
