Tho tennis match between the Napier and Gisborne clubs was played on tho local club s courts on Saturday- afternoon, and resulted in a win for the local club by eight games. The visitors intended to bring eight men, but at the last minute three of their team were prevented from coining. As the time allowed for playing the match was so short it was decided to play only double matches, and to allow Mr H. G. Watson to play for the visitors, each pair to play each pair of opponents two sets, the match to he decided by tho greatest number of games won. Tho detailed scores were as follows :

Macfarlane and Balharry, Napier, v. Barlow andH. N. Waton, Gisborne: First sot, Napier 6, Gisborne S; second sot, Napier 6, Gisborne 3 .

MacfarJaneand Balharry-, Napier, v, Lyttleton and Hawley : First set, Napier 6, Gisborne 2; second set, Napier 4, Gisborne 6.

Williams and Watson, Napior, v. Barlow and H. N. Watson, Gisborne : First set, Gisborne 6, Napier 0; second set, Gisborne 4, Napier 6. Gisborne thus won by 83 games to 75. It is to bo regretted that the match did not tako place earlier in the season, when both sides would have been in bettor form, and the ground in a tuoro playable condition. For the visitors, Messrs Macfarlane and Balharry and Margoliouth and Tipping played the best games, and, for the local men, Messrs Hawley and Lyttleton did the best service, winning 32 games and losing 19. The courts were well attended, there being upwards of two hundred people present.
