Canterbury Success In N.Z. Basketball Final

(P.A.) PALMERSTON N.. Aug. 28. Canterbury, still unbeaten when the final day’s play in the national women’s basketball began on Saturday, ran out easy winners against Auckland 22-7 in the final. The second grade wds won jointly by South Canterbury and Taranaki. The third grade title went to Thames Valley, who were competing in the tournament for the first time. South beat North 17-16, in the annual match for the Atkinson Trophy. The following is the list “trophywinners:—First Grade: New Zealand Shield, Canterbury; Annie Brown Cup (runners-up), Auckland. Second Grade: President’s Shield, South Canterbury and Taranaki equal; Hayhurst Cup (runners-up). Matamata.
