Spread Of Unrest In Coal Mines Of Waikato Area

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Aug. 7. The industrial unrest on the Waikato coalfields bat' taken a new and more serious turn for the worse. All the underground collieries except a small private working were idle again today. It appears that a strike has broken out over issues becoming more and more remotely removed from the small Pukemiro dispute which touched of! the present series of troubles three weeks ago. Sixty thousand tons of coal output have been lost since then and a certain faction among the miners seems to be working against a reconciliation of the parties’ attempts of a break-away movement from the Northern Miners' Union. Attempts to hold ballots at the mine mouth this morning were frustrated.

Men at the Rotowaro and Alison mines went home after long meetings. Trades Union Congress supporters have been very active Voting took place at some mines and men from McDonald and Pukemiro were to cast their votes in Huntly between 10 a.m and 2 p.m. The results will not be known until tomorrow.
