Reds Force Children Into Front Lines
TOKYO, July 24. The North Korean Communist Army was forcing 13-year-old school children into combat against American and South Korean troops, Colonel Lee Sunkeun, of the South Korean Army, said today. His report was confirmed by Captain Kenneth Cornell, an American adviser to the Republic of Korea. Colonel Lee said that captured North Korean troops and refugees from Communist-held areas had reported the use of school children—both boys and girls—in the fighting zones. North Korean soldiers had not been told they were fighting American troops. These soldiers believed they were facing only guerrilla forces which would be wiped out in a week or two.
