PRELIMINARIES TO BIG WRESTLING BOUT
Keen wrestling was seen in the preliminaries to the professional wrestling bout in the Opera House last night. Three of the four bouts were won on falls. The referee was Mr. E. Burton. Results:— N. Carmod.v, Gst. Gib., defeated 11. McAncny, ssl. 1 ilb., by two falls over three three-minute rounds.—This bout ended in the second round when Carmody pinned his opponent for the second time. The stronger of the two. the winner held the offensive throughout. R. McAneney, 7st. 111 b., defeated Leo Grace, 7st. 51b., by two falls over three three-minutes rounds.—McAneney was clearly superior from the start and after obtaining a fall in the first round went on to repeat the performance in the second. J. Rice, 9st. (pib., defeated D. Morton, 9st. lib., by a 'fall over three - threeminute rounds. —A sustained attack by Rice in the second round brought results, Morton’s shoulders dropping flush with the canvas after two minutes wrestling. L. Crib defeated B. Read in the fifth of a scheduled five-round bout when Read was disqualified for an illegality The ever-green amateurs, Read and Crib turned in the best preliminary of the evening in a catchweight ’ contest. Read took a fall with a scissors in the second round and Crib evened with a flash fall in the next. Following three rounds of horseplay wrestling of the straight .variety was seen in the fourth. However, the crowd appreciated the wrestlers’ cavorting and surprise actions.
