BONUS FOR QUALITY URGED ON MINISTER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 5. The National Beekeepers’ Association has forwarded three proposals to the Minister of Marketing aimed at countering the “widespread dissatisfaction among the Dominion's consumer-public at the poor quality of honey being sold on local markets at the same price as first-grade quality.” These proposals, the chairman of the association, Mr. E. A. Field, announced at today’s conference of New Zealand beekeepers were:
(1) That a fine-quality honey to be sold at 2d per lb. more than the present price be put up for sale. (2) That a special 2d per lb. bonus be paid for all honey graded at 96 points or over.
(3) That the existing seals reserve fund be used for bonus payments. Mr. Field, in his annual report, recommended that a firm decision about the future basis of marketing honey should be made by the industry without delay.
