Hopeful Signs Of Recovery By Gen. Smuts
(10 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, June 23. Field Marshal Smuts lifted his head in bed this afternoon and asked his secretary what the news of the day was. It was the best sign from him for several days and his doctors are now hopeful that he is on Ihe road to recovery. They stress, however, that his condition is still serious.
