NEW CHAIRS AT UNIVERSITY.—The establishment of three new chairs at Otago University has been approved by the Government. One in microbiology and another in preventive medicine will be set up in the Medical School and an additional chair in conservative dentistry is to be provided in the Dental School. TRANSPORT BOARD’S LOSS—The Auckland Transport Board, which now operates the largest municipally owned fleet of buses as well as the largest fleet of tramcars in the Dominion, incurred a net loss of £41.818 in the financial year ended on March 31 This was shown in the accounts adopted at the adjourned annual . meeting on Friday. The loss was made up of deficits of £28.340 on the trams and £14.1G7 on the buses, off set bv a surplus of £OB9 from the running of trolley buses. £258.000 FOR KING’S COLLEGE.— A 40-vear plan to raise £258.000 to provide all necessary buildings in permanent form at King's College and to nay off all debts was explained by Mr. R King. Old Boys’ reorer°ntative on the St. John’s College Trust Board, the governing bodv of the college, at the annual meeting of the Kind’s College Old Bovs’ Association in Auckland. The phan pro vides for a surcharge on boarding and dav fees which would brine in about £SOOO a vear. This. Mr. King said, with interest, would give a total of £258.000 at the end of 40 vears. The short-term policy was to complete all urgent building works in the first 20 vears. Approximately £128.000 was needed to .replace all the temporary buildings at" present in u=e The long-term scheme also provided for the paying-off of all debts.
