LESS RAIN LAST MONTH: MORE SUNSHINE
The rainfall recorded at the meteorological station at Darton Field last month was slightly under the average but a good deal less than the total for the same month of last year. Rain fell on 13 days, the total for the month being 4.18 in. comoared with the average of 4.49 in. and the aggregate for May, 1949 of 6.10 in.
There were more hours of sunshine last month compared with the corresponding month of last year, the totals being 114.6 hours and 103.4 hours. The dailv rainfall figures are: —May 5. .12in; Mav 6, ,30in: Mav 7, trace: May 10, Alin: May 11, 1.03 in; May 12. 1.23 in; Mav 14. trace; May 15. .llin: May 16, ,07in; May 18, ,47in: Mav 19, ,09in: May 21, trace; Mav 22, .01 in; Mav 23, trace: May 24, ,09in; May 31, .12in. Rainfall recorded at the Harbour Board's signal station during May to tailed 4.7 Gin., as against 6.89 in. for May, 1949.
Rain fell on 14 days during the month the individual falls being:—May 3. a trace: Mav 5, .03in; May 6, ,38in; May 7. .Olin: Mav 10. 41in: May 11, ,91in; May 12. 1.52 in Mav 14, a trace; Mav 15. ,12in May 16. .12in. May 18. ,60in: Mav 19. 09in: Mav 20, .03in; Mav 22. .llin: May 25. ,04in;' Mav 31. ,12in. For the five months of 1950 now completed the aggregate fall recorded at the signal station is 20.47 in.: for the same period of last year the aggregate fall was 17.26 in.. the early months hav ing been unusually dry.
