YOUNG MAN FINED £5 FOR ASSAULT
Pleading guiltv to a charge of assaulting Patrick Tait at Te Karaka on .Tune i, Wi Mahuika Kingi, aged 22, labourer, Te Karaka, was fined £5, with costs 17s. when he appeared before Messrs M. W. Craig and S. D. Nathan. J.P.’s in the Gisborne Police Court yesterday. Prosecuting, Sergeant D. M. Camp ocll said the charge followed an argument between the defendant and the complainant in an hotel at Te Karaka. "The defendant knocked the complainant to the floor, put a headlock on him and hit him several times on the face." said Sergeant Campbell. The sergeant added that the com plaint’s lower denture had been broken. Imposing the penalty, the bench ordered that 30s of the fine be paid to the complainant as compensation.
