UNITED WIN SENIOR B CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP AND WANDERERS 2nd GRADE: SCHOLLUM’S FASTEST 50

With the senior A grade championship decided, senior teams of tiie P.B. Cricket Association played non-com-petition games on Saturday under ideal conditions. Batting times were divided and the teams scoring the most number of runs were declared winners. Two matches were played and both were closelv contested. Marist won a special trophy by scoring 257 runs, with High School Old Bovs second with 212 runs, United third with 207, and ROB. fourth with 200 runs. All matches were decided on the first innings.

The individual trophy presented by Mr. M. K. Boon, for the fastest 50 runs, was won bv C. Scholium of the Marist Club in 24 minutes. In scoring 01 he hit six sixes. In the contest for the trophv R Barbour, who compiled 50 in 27 minutes was runner-up. Barbour also gave a pleasing performance, taking five sixes off one over from C. Scholium. D. Scholium in compiling 70 scored the first 50 in 157 minutes, hitting four sixes.

C. Fraser added another century h his list for the season, scoring a tally o 101 retired. •

Brebner. for High School Old Boys, bowled exceptionally well, taking six United wickets for 33 runs. McLean, of United took three for 13. Senior It Champions In tiie senior 'B grade competition series United and Wanderers won by default from Marist and High School O d Boys respectively. United took the championship, with R. 0.8. runners-up R. 0.8. defeated High School on the first innings. As a result of Marist and H. 5.0.8. defaulting in the senior B grade, United Dlaved a combined team in a non competition match, and beat their opponents bv 18 runs on the first innings, the scores being 123 and 105 runs respectively The second grade championship was won by Wanderers with R. 0.8! (A) in second position and United, two points behind, were third. The match. United v. R. 0.8. (A), to decicU the runners-up. in the second grade proved an interesting encounter which ended in a draw. United scored 131 and in reply R. 0.8. (A) scored 52 for six managing to play out lime to take the position of runners-up. Chiefly responsible for R. 0.8. (A) forcing die draw was F. Sharpe’s performance. He batted for an hour and 10 minutes at a critical stage to score seven runs. In the final match of the second grade series, McCrcedy for R. 0.8. (B) team established one of the best performances of the season in this division bv taking seven wickets for two runs, including the hat-trick.
