THREE N.Z. STUDENTS OF THEATRE CHOSEN FOR OLD VIC SCHOOL

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 3. The announcement was made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Drama Council on Saturday that three New Zealanders, Mr. Clive R'evell, Wellington, Miss Averill Stephens, Dunedin, and Miss Susan Tunninglon, Tauranga. had been accepted to enter the Old Vic Theatre School, London, for a course commencing in August. They were selected from 11 applicants. The president, Mr. G. IT. A. Swan, of Wellington, said that proposals under examination may shortly lead to the formation of a repertory stock company in New Zealand on a professional Mr. Swan said that there had beep very ready appreciation by the previous and the present Governments of the significance of the council s work, but. nevertheless, only a very small share of the public tunas nad been devoted to the theatre in New Zealand which was dragging very b-dly behind other countries. Funds were needed because of New Zealand's greater isolation. “We have talent in plenty,” he said. “It only needs leadership.”
