JUDGING CONTEST BY Y.F.C. MEMBERS IN GISBORNE AREA
The Gisborne district council of the Y.F.C. movement recently concluded a judging contest for its members with encouraging results. There were 65 entries in all, and at the final day of judging, firstly at Waitaria and in the afternoon at the stud farm of Mrs. G. L. Iline, Taurau Valley, there was an attendance of 70, including 20 visitors. The judges were:—Beef cattle, Mr, G. V. Sxxxith; dairy section, Mr. R. G. Hine; pigs. Mr. H. T. Donaldson; horses, Mr. R. Hansen; Southdown and Romneys, Mr. A. Kirkpatrick. Prior to the start of each contest, the judges gave talks on the judging of their respective classes, giving tne contestants a lead in the matter of good points and faults. The district chairman, Mr. Don Graham, extended thanks to the judges and helpers for the appreciated assistance and to Mr. and Mrs. Hine and Mr. Smith for their hospitality. Afternoon tea was served at Mrs. Hine’s farm. It was announced that a team would be selected from Gisborne to compete in the Wellington council contest to be conducted in Hastings in mid-April. The results of the Gisborne contest were:—
Horses.—W. Teutenberg, 275 points, 1; D. L. Graham, 270 points, 2; M. Tombleson, 265 points. 3. Dairy.—M. Tombleson, 120 points, 1; J. Topp, 118 points, 2; D. L. Graham, 117 points, 3.
Pigs.—D. Moore, 229 points, 1; J. Topp 197 points, 2; D. Briant, 183 points, 3. Beef Cattle.—W. Teutenberg, 235 points, 1; M. Manuel, 195 points, 2; M. Tombleson, 180 points, 3. Southdowns.—M. Tombleson, 245 points, 1: D. L. Graham, 240 points, 2; C. Stevens, 220 points, 3. Romneys.—M. Tombleson, 260 points, 1; W. Teutenberg, 255 points, 2; C. Stevens, 245 points, 3.
