STERLING IMPROVES
Fnether recovery in sterling funds is shown 4 in the latest return of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for the week ended March 22. The bank's sterlirlV exchange in London rose duiincr tht? period by .€251,230 to £48,589.644, which is the highest level for seven months. Trading:, banks* deposits, which have shown heavy reductions during the past few weeks owing to income fax payments, rose by more than £.’.000,G00 to £69.633.0*9. On the other hand. State deposits were £1,000.000 lower at €36.^19,087. After contracting steadily wince the Christ- 1 mas holiday season, the note issue expanded slightly front £53.203.058 to £53.618,068. The void reserve increased during the week by £13.490 to £4,019,510.
