INTER-BRIGADE CONTESTS: FOUR WINS FOR WAIROA

A team of five Wairoa fire-brigade members who visited Gisborne on Saturday for a series of contests with the Gisborne brigade put up an outstanding display, and won four events by narrow margins from the representatives of the Gisborne brigade. The competitive element was strong, and a number of spectators followed the contests with keen interest, undaunted by the chances of a shower from hose-nozzles. Results were:—

Time. 43 4-ssec. The last event was tied on the first runs, both teams making 51 sec. In the second runs. Wairoa shaved its earlier time by two and one-fifth seconds and Gisborne did one second better than on the first run.
