Off-Course Betting Scheme Not Accepted Or Rejected--Mr Bodkin
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 31. “I have not accepted or rejected it,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. W. A. Bodkin, when commenting on published reports that the scheme for offcourse betting on the totalisator submitted to the Government by the New Zealand Racing and Trotting Conferences was understood to have been rejected. Mr. Bodkin indicated that he hoped to take the matter to the Cabinet next week. “I would not consider approving or rejecting the scheme without a further conference with the racing and trotting representatives, and I have not been in a position to do so up to the present,” said the Minister. The matter was referred to the Treasury by my department and to the Post and Telegraph Department for their comments. Some of the reports have been received and I hope to be able to take the matter to the Cabinet next week,” concluded Mr. Bodkin.
