WOOL PRICES AT HIGHEST IN FINAL MARCH SALE
(11 a.m.) LONDON, March 31. The March series of London wool sales closed today with prices for almost all descriptions at their highest point.
The final catalogues totalled 17,600 bales, including 9600 bales from New Zealand and there was a total clearance under widespread competition from both the Home trade and the Continent.
AH crossbred fleece and skirtings were in persistent demand and the advance of 5 per cent, reported yesterday was fully confirmed. The demand for lambs was less insistent than earlier in the series and, consequently, prices for them were a little irregular and sometimes easier. A feature of the sales was the high prices for a small offering of scoured wools from Ashburton Gorge shipped on growers’ account. Six bales of Merinos realised 122Jd while 104 d was paid for two lots of halfbreds, comprising seven and 13 bales respectively.
