Drilling Delayed
Drilling at the oil-bore on Ngamotu Beach being undertaken by Egmont Oil Wells Limited has been temporarily delayed by a small seam of gas sand encountered at a depth of 270 feel. To overcome the seam, steel casing or pipping will be used to wall it off hut a shortage of suitable seven-inch piping is the main cause of the delay. Gas from the seam, according to the field manager of the company, Mr. F. J. Dobson, spoils the drilling mud but the presence of such a gas seam indicated that oil was present.
