Captured Ship Used By Chinese Raiders?
(10 a.m.)
HONG KONG. March 30
British officials are investigating a report that Chinese Nationalists are using a captured British merchantman as a troop carrier in raids on the mainland coast.
The ship is the motor vessel Ethel Moller, of 485 tons, which has not been heard from since she cleared Hong Kong for Inchow, Korea, on February 2(1. Unconfirmed Taiwan reports state that the ship was captured by a Nationalist gunboat when entering Amoy and taken to Taiwan. The British are investigating a report that the ship was used to convoy troops on a second raid on the Communist coast this week. The authorities are also investigating the disappearance of a Chinese-owned British registered ship Taicliunshan, of 130 tons, which left Hong Kong for Amoy last Friday. The ship failed to reach her destination and is believed to have been captured by the Nationalists.
