UNDEFEATED COLT DAVEY JONES HAS OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW MERIT IN CLASSIC

(Herald Special Service.)

The undefeated Neptune colt, Davey Jones, has the opportunity at Awapuni tomorrow to prove his merit in the classic grade. He is one of the 13 acceptances for the Sires Produce Stakes, star event of the second-day programme of the Manawatu Racing Club s autumn meeting.

In his three races so far Davey Jones won twice at Trcntham and once at the Marton meeting. The opposition tomorrow will be the stillest he has yet encountered.

. Indications are for large fields again. The main handicap, to be run for £IOSO over 10 furlongs, has drawn 17 acceptances, and 19 are listed for the other leg of the double, the Longburn Handicap.

Winners from Poverty Bay on the first day, High Profit and Almora, are not included in tomorrow’s fields.

KARERE HURDLES HDCP.

TERRIFIC (15). 7.1, has a good lightweight’s chance. YASDA <2l, 7.1. is unreliable. BROOKE AND (5). 7.1, would need to improve but a little on last week s form to be very hard to keep out of the money.

Waratangi (5) 11.2, is a recent winner, but the weight will tax him fully. Result (17), 10.10, was not impressive on the last day at Wellington, but on his home track may do belter. Mesalliance (14), 10.4, does not appeal on last week’s fourth, but may be a place proposition. Carnforlh (13), 10.2, was third in his last two efforts and cannot be disregarded. Tribute (11), 9.11, won in his last two hurdle starts and is lucky in getting only 131 b above the minimum. Specialist (9), 9.13, made play for a while last week, but finished a long way back. Tudor Chief (12), 9.12, is the sort to upset calculations; is fast and jumps brilliantly, but lacks stamina. Makoura (7), 9.8, won last' week’s division, but will not be paying a tall price this tune. Gaiety (8), 9.3, has proved herself over the tall timber; may find the course not quite far enough. Supreme Shepherd (16), 9.4, is just a shot in the dark. Erinmore (6), 9.3, needs a soft track to be as hard as any other. Tory (4), 9.2, was second in his last two starts. The Reiver (3), 9.2, seems a likely improver on his placing last week. NOVICE PLATE (First Division). There is not a great deal of form offering in this heat. Those who have been in or near a place will make the most appeal. They include Hunting Fort, Irish Scholar, Lord Burford and Master Modereen. The class in the second division is about on a par with the first. Ataliua, from Hastings, was second at Wairoa, but has failed in his two starts since. Bambton, according to report, might surprise. There is a little form on the charts of Fastidious, Kayler, Lovely Rosa, Passlime, Silver Nelson and Relate. WOODHEY HACK HANDICAP (First Division). Recess (5), 9.1, has been unplaced in his last five starts, but has speed. Warspite (1) 8.12, had every show last week, but was not in the first five at the finish. Dynamic (8) 8.10, won well last week and may achieve me “hat trick.” Reward (12) 8.6, is a very fair hack, and will be one of the best backed. Sentimental (9), 8.4, won well on the first day and has the right form but now has 111 b extra to carry. Vane Mistress (2), 7.13. has as yet earned nothing on this Opaki-Trentham-Awa-puni circuit. Malicious (10), 7.12, will have benefited by last week’s race and the distance will suit her better. Jimmy Wilde (13) 7.10, is a long time getting out of this grade. Rescind (14) 7.10, is no more than a place possibility. Parker and Regal Diamond appear about the best of the remainder. (Second Division* Anvil Song (4), 9.0, was seednd on the first day and this time has drawn a better barrier position. Brilliance (6) 8.10, a five-ycar-old, has not raced since winning at Marton on January 2 Despot (7), 8.7, was third at Rangilikei on the minimum. Robin Tor (9) 8.7, last week was in the call for a while, but was not in the first six at the finish. Great Queen (3), 8.3. won earlier this season, but has not competed in the last few months. Royal Briton (2), might be suited if the track is easy. Royal Bouquet (8) 7.12, was third last week; has a place show probably. Vulcania (4), 7.12. won a novice division last week at this meeting. Dowry (10), 7.11, came from a long way back over seven furlongs last week to run second. The distance now is a furlong less. Royal Spur (11) 7.10, was up close to the lenders the other day. His Lordship (14), 7.9, weighed in fourth on the opening day. Haughty Boy (13), 7.7, lias no place form this season. ★TAMATETE HANDICAP ROBIN’S REWARD (10), 9.10, represents the best provincial class, but a mile and a quarter on the Awapuni track may be a little short. FAULTIN’A (11). 9.2, started last in the Taranaki Cup and was second to Lord Manna. IMPERIAL (4), 8.9, was third last week and seems on the eve of winning again. INDIAN SONG (6), 8.9, will not be denied a chance if the going is v easy. VEINE d’OR (14), 8.2, won solidly over seven furlongs on the first day and appears back to her peak. BEAU OR (12), 8.1, ran poorly at Wellington, after two wins. DISTINCTION (10), 8.0, was seventh on Il*e opening day. TREMELLO (9), 7.10, had every show in the King George Handicap, but did not respond when pressure was applied. BIRD MAN (12). 7.4. was fancied on the first day, but did not receive the best of runs.

ARCARA (17). was not produced on the first day; ran well enough at Wellington to be labelled a likely lightweight.

BELLA MIA (7), 7.0, was third recently over this distance. BEAUFORM and FLYING DINK complete the field. SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES DAVY JONES (5), 8.7, has been unbeaten to date and will probably start as the favourite, despite the presence of a couple of slick gallopers from Auckland. THE UNICORN (1), 8.7, has won fouiraces this season and been placed in all other attempts. Aucklanders hold him in high esteem. ZENITH (7), 8.7, has won five races this season and must appeal. DARK COURAGE (4), 8.5, may not be up to classic form, but is above the average. VOIRON (12), 8.3, won his last two races and at Wellington was rather impressive. ALARM (G), 8.0. drew wide out on both days at Trenlham; has ability. MISS WYNWARO (11), 8.0, was fourth last week. SEA WOLF (10), 8.0, is on the upgrade. LINKMAN (9), 7.G. has no form. TOWER CLOCK (8). 7.6, from Hastings. has started four times without being in the money, but last Tuesday galloped well before going away. *LONGBURN HANDICAP Wild Note (8). 9.1, won practically all the way at Wellington, but the turning track at Awapuni may not suit him as well. Travel King (13), 8.12, came from a long way back on the first day to finish fifth. Livrc d'Or has no recent form. Fleetwood (2), 7.11, has drawn much closer to the rails this time and may do better. La Modclle (7), 7.11, has not raced for some time. Golden Sun (11), 7.8, on his home track is bound to be a force to reckon with. Newsboy (10). 7.7, showed a lot of speed to be third a week ago. The shorter distance should be to his advantage. Gold Circuit (8), 7.4, on her second at Wellington on the first day reads nicely at the weights. Nigra (12), 7.4. has given poor showings of late. The Slormovik (4), 7.2, is not fancied. Golden Robes (18), 7.1, won a fair race on the first day, but has again drawn wide out. Demure (14), 7.0, is a most likely lightweight. Marcia (19), 7.0, has again been unlucky in the draw for barrier positions. Taper Spy (17), 7.0, was never in the call on the first day. Quartz (5), 7.0, has not raced for some months. Theiolcx (15). 7.0, reads as good as any of the others on the minimum; might surprise. ADDERSTONE HANDICAP Atomic (13), 9.3, came home well on the first day over seven furlongs and should have a good show of paying a dividend again. Kippo (14), 9.1, might want the race. Trcccdeney (18), 8.7, is not recommended. Belle Mia (12), 7.13, is also in the Tamatete Handicap. Lord Holland (lfi), 7.13, has no place form since the spring. Solimbine (4), 7.12, is the type to win a race like this. Arcara (11) 7.12, is also in an earlier event. I’lirlous (5), 7.12, is not fancied. Bar Garrctle (10). 7.11, has a rough place show. Billy Ruffin (17) and Brcnlock (2), both 7.11, are promoted hacks with winning form. Of those on the minimum of 7.11 the best chances may be voted to Offender and Super Spin. TE MATAI HACK HDC?. FIRST DIVISION Boyhood came from a long way back to run second the first day, and now having drawn (12) on the 8.13 mark, should not lack for support. Golden Link (Hi), 8.3, has only a place show. Royal Crown (7), 8.3, on his fourth the first day will not be passed over lightly. Pavia (10), 8.3, is whispered as a likely one to surprise. Wembley (8), 8.3, has very ordinary form. Chip (2), 7.13, did a little better on the first day than expected when running third. SECOND DIVISION Retrieve (15), 8.10, over seven furlongs on the opening day, was fourth; is not disregarded as a likely winner as the class is not strong. Spoil Sport (12) 8.3, lias been a fairly consistent place getter of late. Waiford (8), 8.3, is a fair staying hack. Action (14), 8.3, last week’s winner, looks one of the favourites. Lady Quick (10), 8.1, has failed of late. Night Royal and the others down the list to Sandalwood do
