COMING AND GOING Mr. and Mrs. J, A. McLeod, Clifiord Street, have left for a visit to Rotoiti. Mrs. W. F. Cederwall, Rutene Road, has returned home after a visit to Wanganui. She was the guest of her. son and daughter-in-law. Mrs. K. A. Ensor and Miss L. Ensor have returned to Gisborne after two months’ holiday at Rotoiti. Mrs. H. J. Cross, Wellington, is the guest of the Misses Keaney, Fox Street. Mrs. L. Evans, Russell Street, has returned to Gisborne after a visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. M. Holden. Wellington, is visiting Gisborne. Sne is staying at the Masonic Hotel. . Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Humphreys, Ngatapa, have left for a visit to the South Island. They will stay with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Wanklyn, Rakaunui, Gladfield, Invercargill. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Thomas, “Carnagh” Clifford Street, have left for a visit to Rotoiti.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Barboure, Makauri, are visiting Mahia. They are staying with their two daughters, Mrs. E. C. Kain and Mrs. B. W. Stevens. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Reynolds, Haronga Road, have left for a visit to Hawke's Bay for the polo tournament. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Tyerman, Whitaker Street, have recently returned home after visiting Auckland for the Chemists’ Guild conference.

New Zealand's lending woman hurdler and a popular athlete throughout the Dominion was married last Saturday. - She was Miss June Barbara Schoch, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. G, Schoch, Titahi Bay. Wellington. The bridegroom was Mr. Ronald Geoffrey Clare, elder son of Mr. C. M. and the late Mrs. Clare, New Plymouth. The ceremony was at St. Andrew’s Churcn, The Terrace, Wellington, where the Rev. J. S. Somerville officiated.

BUSINESS WOMEN MEET The annual meeting of the Gisborne Business and Professional Women's Club was held in the Bon Accord on Monday. The vice-president, Mrs. Bell-Syer, welcomed members. Miss M. Ensor was elected president for the ensuing term, and officers and members were thanked for their cooperation over the past year. After a discussion on general business the meeting was closed with the reading of the benediction by Mrs. Bell-Syer. “KITCHEN” EVENING In honour of Miss Margaret Hansen, whose marriage to Mr. F. L. Clark takes place on Saturday, Mrs. Trevor Hansen invited friends to her home in Russell Street for a “kitchen” evening. The guest of honour, who was wearing a blue floral silk frock which featured a draped square neckline, a fitting bodice and a full skirt, was assisted by one of her prospective brides-

maids, Miss July Hansen, to unwrap many useful gifts for the kitchen. The hostess greeted the guests wearing a floral silk dress in autumn tonings, and her daughter. Miss Judy Hansen, had chosen a floral silk dress in tones of blue and red on a white background. Artistically arraanged mixed bowls of pom-pom dahlias, zinnias, delphiniums and Michaelmas daisies were the decorations in the house. G.W.C.’S LITERARY CIRCLE Mrs. R. L. Gray presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the literary circle of the Gisborne Women’s Club on Monday. Mrs. Gray thanked all members for their support during her term of office. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented by Mesdames A. E. Legge and Hugh Jones, secretary and treasurer respectively. Mrs. Gray welcomed the new convener, Mrs. V. Clement, who was greeted with applause. Mrs. Hutchins was elected secretary, and Mrs. Hugh Jones treasurer and press correspondent, while Mrs. Gray was appointed the link with the club committee. A varied programme was arranged for the year, and Mesdames Clement, Hutchins and Hooper agreed to arrange plays and sketches. Afternoon tea was served.

TOWNSWOMEN’S EVENING GUILD The junior circle of the Townswomen’s Guild, which was formed some months ago, was inaugurated into a guild by Mrs. B. Wilson, organiser for the Dominion federation, at a meeting in’Low’s rooms on Monday. As the name indicates, the meetings are held in the evening, thus suiting business women and mothers who cannot attend afternoon meetings. This is now the thirty-fourth guild within the Dominion Federation. Thirty-six members were enrolled, the officers being:—President, Mrs. J. Sodcrston; vice-president, Mrs. E. Grundy; secretary, Mrs. W. Hazell; treasurer, Mrs. V. Mansfield. A competition for the best household hint was won by Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Ryan. A mystery parcel donated by Mrs. Nolan was won by Mrs. Darling. The musical circle of the fownswomen’s Guild provided entertainment with some enjoyable items, after which supper was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Grundy and Heyworth and Misses Clay and James. RECEPTION AT PQHQ-Q-RAWIRI : KANE—SMITH WEDDING St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church was decorated with white asters, pink and mauve dahlias and asters for the Mr. and Mrs. E. Smith, Trafford’s Hill, Mr .and Mrs. E. Smith, Trafford's Hill, Matawai, and Norman Lees, son of Mr, | and Mrs. T. Kane, Gordon Street, Mnngapapa, last Saturday. The Rev. J. Kingsley Fairbairn officiated at the ceremony, and Mr. I. Moore was the organist. Miss Margaret Stewart sang while the bridal group was in the vestry. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of ivory satin designed with an embroidered collar and waistband, a fitting bodice which buttoned down the back, long full sleeves fitting from just below the elbow to the wrist finished with small buttons and coming to a point on the hand and a full skirt which fell into a train. Her long tulle embroidered veil was held in place by a halo embroidered similar to (lie collar with a spray of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of white dahlias, rosebuds, earnations and daisies. 'Maids Wear Sky Bine Moire Tafleia Frocks of sky blue moire taffeta were worn by the bridesmaids, Miss Noeline Ciiffo, Auckland, chief, Miss Marie Gray, Gisborne, and Miss Cherie Kane, sister of the bridegroom. Their frocks were fashioned with gathered yokes with V necklines, fitting bodices buttoning down the back with covered buttons, fitting waists, tucked sleeves and flared skirts. They carried shower bouquets of nink dahlias, carnations and rosebuds. The best man was Mr. Colin Swan, and the groomsmen Messrs. Andrew Kane and Harry Lee. The wedding reception was held at Poho-o-Rnwiri, with a dance afterwards. The bride’s mother greeted the cuests wearing a dusky pink frock under a navy edge-to-edge coat off-set with a spray of pink rosebuds, a navy hat and accessories. The bridegroom’s mother wore a slate grey frock under a navy edge-to-edge coat, a navy hat and shoes, grey accessories and cream spray of rosebuds. For travelling the bride chose a pastel blue frock with an embroidered red rose on the yoke and maroon accessories. Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Kane will make their future home in Gisborne.
