Financier’s Property Sold Secretly
PERTH (Air Mail), Press and the public were barred from the sale of furniture in the Perth home of international financial Claude de Bernales. The house, sold earlier for £45,000, will be made into a town hall war memorial and civic centre.
Police stood on guard at the gates and turned curious onlookers away. The furniture was said to be valued at 30,000 and cards sent to hundreds of buyers from eastern States. De Bernales came to Australia in 1897 and earned a reputation for shrewdness when selling machinery on the Coolgardie goldfields. He made big investments in goldmines.—Reuter.
