CLUB HEARS TRAVEL TALK The fortnightly meeting of the Business and Professional Women's Club was held on Monday at the Bon Accord, The president, Miss K. Salter, welcomed a large attendance of members. The guest speaker for the evening was Miss Prudence Gregory, who spoke of her travels in Australia. At the conclusion of Miss Gregory’s interesting address a vote of thanks was passed on the motion of Mrs. T. Cleaver. PARTIES FOR TODAY'S BRIDE Miss Nola Neenan, whose marriage takes place today, was the guest of honour at an afternoon given by Mesdames Hapgood and Bridge at the former’s home in Collin’s Street. Gifts for the kitchen were opened by the bride-to-be, assisted by two of her prospective bridesmaids, Misses Pat Bridge and Janet Hapgood. Mrs. G. Bodgcr entertained at her home in Aberdeen Road, op Miss Necr nan’s behalf. Mips Marie Cook, her chief bridesmaid, assisted in opening miscellaneous gifts. On Tuesday afternoon Miss Neenan was the guest of honour' at a “grocery” afternoon at Low's tearoorps, given by her aunts, Miss I. Neenan and Mesdames Cleary and Harvey. Mrs. McDowell also entertained the bride-to-be at her home in Roebuck Road. Competitions and community s.nging passed an enjoyable evening. BRIDE-TO-BE FETED Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Kinder invited friends of Miss Mary Walton and Mr. Wathen Lysnar to their home in Stout Street from 7 to 9 o'clock on Tuesday in honour of their approaching marriage. Beautiful bowls of mixed spring flowers, stocks, sweet peas, carnations, Iceland poppies, and tinted leaves decorated the rooms, and were a most becoming setting for Mrs. Kinder's silver lame cocktail jacket and black skirt. The guest of honour wore a soft dusky pink crepe frock, with a Peter Pan collar, and pin tucked bodice. 5 O'clock Party Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Holmes, Russell Street, also invited friends of Miss Walton and Mr. Lysnar to their home, at 5 o'clock. The hostess had decorated her house with bowls of spring flowers, stocks, iris, cornflowers, Argentine pea and poppies. On the dining-room table was a bowl of red camellias, and on a table Hi the drawing-room a bowl of Lily of the Valley, The guest of honour chose a frock of striped silk in pastel shades of pinks and greens, while Mrs. Holmes wore a gieen and Burgundy patterned crepe. OVERSEAS' WIVES CLUB A further meeting of the Overseas Wives Club was held on Wednesday evening at the Y.M.C.A. In the absence of Mrs. B. Jenkins, Mrs. G. Harris welcomed two new members, Mrs, Wickerson. and Miss Vittle, and also Mrs. H. Freddy, a former member who is on a visit from Wellington. Mrs. G. Leach was in charge of the bring-and-buy table. Airs. Preddv received the food parcel. Members were asked to bring a favourite recipe to the next meeting, when it is hoped to begin the club cookery book. The hostesses were Mrs. G. Leach and Airs. T. Carey. Farewell Party On Saturday members were invited to the homo of Air. and Mrs. W. AT. Jenkins. Russell Street, to a farewell party given by Airs. R. Nieholl and Mrs. B. Jenkins for Mrs. H. Mossman, who is leaving for a holiday in England. Mr. R. Nieholl proposed the toast to the guest of honour and thanked Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins for the use of their home. A delicious savoury supper was served. The guest of honour cut the attrac-tively-iced cake, and was wished good luck and lion voyage from friends and members of the dub.

DIAMOND WEDDING GARDNER-GARDNER

Married on October 19. .1889, at Collyhurst, Manchester, England, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gardner, Mangapapa, on Wednesday celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. Mr. Gardner, who arrived at Gisborne in 1908. was followed a year later by his wife and children. They settled in Mangapapa where they have resided ever since.

Their family comprises one daughter, Mrs- H. Bacon, Gisborne, and two sons, Ala?.i, England, and Albert. Wellington. A third soil. Herbert, died three years ago. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grand-child. Mr. Gardner was one of three brothers who married three sisters, and the celebration was attended by his brother, Mr. Lloyd Gardner, and two sisters of Mrs. Gardner, Mesdames L. and M. Gardner. A wedding breakfast was held in the Church of Christ, about 80 guests attending. The wedding cake was the gift of Mr. and Mrs- Gardner’s nieces, Mesdames W. Olding and H. Richards. Messages of congratulation were received from the King and Queen, the Governor-General and Lady Freyberg, the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, and Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P. Cable messages from England and telegrams from all parts of New Zealand were also read. Congratulatory speeches were interspersed with items by Misses D. Bacon, E. Hill, and L. Trowell, and Mr. F. Bacon. Mrs. A. L. Elliott acting as accompanist. Mr. Albert Gardner was the M.C.

WEDDING OF NAVAL INTEREST: ISLE-INGRAM I-loly Trinity Church was decorated with flowers in pastel shades on Saturday, October 15, for the wedding of Dawn Alfreds Ingram (ex W.R.N.S., Devonnort), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ingram, Muir Street, Gisborne, t.o Sig. Noel Lester Isle, H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel, Auckland, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Isle, Papanui, Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by Archdeacon A. F. Hall, the organist being Mr. D. G. Dyer. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown with very full skirt of white marquisette, forming a train at the back, topped by a longwaisted lace bodice pointed at back and front. White lace mittens were worn, and a beautiful embroidered veil was secured by a pearl coronet belonging to the bridegroom's sister. The bride wore a triple string of pearls, and carried a trailing bouquet of arum lilies, Lily of the Valley and white stock.

Miss Iris Single. Gisborne, attended the the bride, wearing a lemon taffeta oft'-the-shoulder frock with honeycomb bodice and full skirt. She carried a bouquet of mause flowers, which were also worn in her hair. The best man was Sjg. Peter McLeay, H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel, Auckland.

A reception was held in the Bon Accord, where Mrs. Ingram received her guests wearing a wine frock with matching accessories and a pink spray of carpations and roses. She was assisted by Mrs. Isle, who wore a leafgreen costume with navy accessories, and a spray of Lily of the Valley. For travelling the bride wore a lime green crepe frock with embroidered bodice and tan accessories, Sig. and Mrs. N. L. Isle plan to live in Auckland.

Prior to her marriage on November 12 to Mr. L. A. Joblin, Wairoa, Miss Yvonne de Lantour was the guest of honour yesterday at a "miscellaneous party at the home of Airs. E. M. Hutchinson, Kaiti.

The hostesses were Mrs. F. G. Bellerby, who wore a navy stud frock, Mrs. G. S. Bridge, in sand crepe, and Miss 1.. AI. Hutchinson, who was wearing a deep turquoise linen frock. The room was decorated with bowls of sweet peas.

Miss de I.autour, who had chosen a deep red linen frock, was assisted by two prospective bridesmaids, _ Misses Ann de Lautour and Patty Bridge, to open many useful and attractive gifts. ST. ANDREW’S FELLOWSHIP

The monthly meeting of the St. Andrew's Fellowship Group was held on Wednesday. Mrs. W. S. Taylor presided. and Miss .1. Clover led the meeting in devotions, and Airs. J. Smellie acted as organist for the evening. After the general business had been dealt with the mission news was heard in the form of a play-reading based on the visits of home missionaries to various mission stations in the North Island. Those taking part were Mesdames Bruce, Clark, McLeod, Timms, and Wills. Two interesting competitions were held, the winners being Mesdames McGuffie and Williamson. Tire annual cooking and floral competition was held this month, and this also proved very successful. The judges for the different sections were Floral, Mesdames S. Paviour and C. S. Corson: preserves and jam, Mrs. H. H. Salmon; sweets, Mrs. J. K. Fairbairn. The competitions resulted. —Jam: Airs. J. Smellie, 1; Mrs. G. Tangney, 2. Alarmalade: Mrs. A. Webster, l; Mrs, E. PRE-WEDDING PARTIES Mrs. S. Thompson, Muir’s Lane, was hostess at a “miscellaneous” gift party in honour of Aliss Pat Knox, whose wedding took place today. Iceland poppies and stocks decorated the room. The hostess wore a London tan frock with lattice work on the bodice, the guest of honour wearing a royal blue frock.

Another hostess was Miss Janet Cruickshank, a prospective bridesmaid who entertained friends of Miss Knox at a "pantry” evening. Floral decorations consisted of Lily of the Valley and lilac. The guest of honour wore a dusky pink linen frock, and the hostess had chosen a fawn suit.

A second bridesmaid. Miss Beverley Jackson, Makaraka, held a "miscellaneous'' oarty. Miss Knox chose a Marina blue crepe frock, and the hostess, who decorated the room with poppies and spring flowers, wore a green frock with brown stripe. Joint hostesses at a “kitchen” afternoon were Mesdames A. Wildish. T. Warren and T. McFadyen. The home of the last-mentioned at Wainui Beach was decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. Wildish wore black with pale blue trimmings, Mrs. Warren, green silk, and Airs. McFadyen cyclamen floral. Miss Knox was wearing sky blue crepe, with wine embroidery on the bodice. Airs. H. Hitchiner and her daughter, Mrs. E, Stewart, entertained at the foimer's home in Kaiti. Mrs. Hitchiner was wearing navy blue wool georgette. Mrs. Stewart had chosen powder blue crepe, and JVliss Knox wore an off-white linen suit with drawn-thread work on the bodice.
