TARANAKI FORWARDS OUTPLAY AUCKLAND

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. By outplaying Auckland in the last 20 minutes and scoring the deciding try three minutes before time the Taranaki Rugby representatives won by 17 points to 14 in at times thrilling and fast Rugby match at New Plymouth on Saturday. The game was played in bright sunshine before a crowd of about 12.000. Auckland appeared dangerous in the first half, but Taranaki gained a greater share of the ball in the second half and the forward took charge in the latter stages and enabled the backs to move freely. Sorenson, the full-back, Vcrsalhv and Barter were the pick of the Auckland backs and Roper, Walsh and Cockerill were notable for Taranaki. In the forwards Kissick, Herbert and Potior worked well for Taranaki while McDonald, Cutler and West showed up for Auckland.

For Taranaki tries were scored by Rowlands, Roper, and Kissick, Cockerill converting one and kicking a penalty goal. Walsh drop-kicked a goal and Vcrsalhv and Sorenson scored tries for Auckland. Sorenson converting his own and kicking two penalty goals.
