EMERGENCY COAL STRIKE ACT REPEALED

CANBERRA, Aug. 18. The Attorney-General, Dr H. VEvatt, yesterday announced the repeal of the Emergency Coal Strike Act under which the funds of unions were frozen to prevent assistance being given to the strikers. He said that the repeal would nof prejudice actions pending under the Act.

Dr. Evatt added that the statute was without precedent in the legislative history of-Australia but was supported by the overwhelming majority, including the huge membership of industrial and political Labour. Industrial organisations must realise that under conditions of all employment strikes and lock-outs were just as unjustifiable as the use of force or economic aggression in international affairs-
