(10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 14. For the first time in Britain, rain has been “manufactured” and made to fall as though by Nature, reports the newspaper The People.
RAF scientists did it by seeding’’ solid carbon-dioxide into the clouds from an aeroplane in “Operation Witch Doctor. ’ Thre* rain flights have been made.'two of which have been successful. . , , , The clouds were first seeded on August 3 at 1000 ft. west of the Pennine range of mountains. Later a moderate shower of ram fell three miles south of the Tees V>i' P y v/ater Board’s catchment area —the pc3ition where the plane’s navigator predicted the water would fall.
