British Troops To Try Out New Service Clothes
(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter— Copyright.)
(10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 12. A new range of clothing for the British soldier in the field will he tested hg detachments of all arms in Britain, Germany and the. Middle East during the next six months, the War Office announced today.
The new clothing is a complete departure from that at present in use. It consists of a peaked cap, a twopiece garment comprising a smock and trousers called a combat suit, a short greatcoat, a poncho and leather high boots.
The War Office described the poncho as a South American-Spanish style of cloak. As worn in South America it is a piece of woollen or alpaca cloth, five to seven feet long by three to four feet broad, and has in the middle a slit through which the wearer passes his head.
