SMALL YARDING AT MATAWHERO
Once again there was a light yarding of fat and store sheep at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday. Quotations were at par, the competition being fairly good on the few lines offering Muriwai farmers contributed several sheep which were auctioned in support of !he country candidate in the "Popular Girl" contest. The funds benefited to the extent of £25 10s. Solid 4-th wethers were making 55s Id. and lighter sorts 495. Medium fat ewes were selling at from 33s to 34s 6d. and hoggets from 35s 3d. to 37s 9cl. There was nothing much to get a line on in the store sheep section. The only pen of M.A. ewes on the drop to the Romney made 48s, and 17 M.A. ewes with 23 lambs at foot fetched 595, lambs in. Mixed-sex hoggets realised 28s Id. The pig market was not at all buoyant, portion of the entry being passed in. Young weaners sold at from 41s to 435, and slips were sold privately at 465.
