IN AND OUT OF TOWN Miss Betty Williams has returned to Palmerston North after spending her holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs J- B. Williams, “Kaimoe,” Patutahi. Miss K. Beale, “Puketiti,” Te Puia, has returned home after staying with Mrs. T. J. Corkery, Wainui Beach, for the golf tournament. Miss D. Cassin, Gisborne, is a weekend visitor to Hawke's Bay.

Mrs. H. B. Drummond, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs. J. Cranswick, Fox street, has returned to Otanc.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Loisel,' Tolaga Bay, are visiting Hawke's Bay for the races. Miss Margaret Speedy, Dannevirke, is visiting Gisborne. Misses C. Oman and E. Millar, Wainui Beach, have returned home after visiting Wairoa. Miss P. Jameson. Hawke's Bay. is visiting Gisborne this week-end. She is staying with her sister, Mrs. R. O. Morley. Miss Fay Telford, who is nursing in Wellington, is spending her annual leave with her mother, Mrs. K. Telford, Te KarakaMr. and Mrs. A. Bright, “Toromiro, Kanakanaia, have returned home after spending a few days in Gisborne. Mrs. S. Bennett and Mrs. Thomas have returned to Hamilton after visiting Gisborne for the golf tournament. They were the guests of Mrs. J. W. Oman. Fitzherbert street.

Miss Virginia Bull. Auckland, is the week-end guest of Mrs. R- G. Dobson, Rere.

Miss F. Deans, “Homebush,” Canterbury, has been paying a visit to Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. G. Dobson. Ruatoria, are the guests of Mrs. R. Dobson, Hurahura road.

Mrs. L. Balfour, Fox street, has left for a visit to Hawke's Bay. She is staying with her niece, Mrs. B. H. Drummond. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jackson, Huiarua, Tokomaru Bay, have returned home after spending a few days in Gisborne. Mrs. J. Smith, Kaiwaka, Tokomaru Bay, has returned home after visiting Gisborne for the golf tournament. She was the guest of Mrs. A. H. DeCosta, Wainui Beach.

Miss Maisie McGregor, who left Gisborne last December to tour England and Scotland, has also visited France, Italy and Switzerland. She is now in Queensland, and expects to return to Gisborne about the end of this month. Miss June E. Walker, Tutumatai, Ruatoria, is spending her leave at home before returning to training college in Auckland. GOLFERS ENTERTAINED On Tuesday at 5 o’clock Mrs. H, G.' Kemp entertained the visiting golfers at her home at The Willows, Matawhero. The drawing-room was artistically decorated with bowls of cinerarias. Mrs. Kemp greeted her guests wearing a blue figured silk frock. OVERSEAS WIVES’ CLUB CELEBRATES Members of the Overseas Wives’ Club and friends were recently invited to a social and dance in the Abercorn Hall, to celebrate the third anniversary of the club. The hall was decorated with mixed spring flowers and gay coloured streamers The Hiil Billy Band and Mrs. Gordon, pianist, supplied the music for dancing. Mr. R. Nicoll was the M.C. Several novelty dances and competitions were enjoyed. The winners were Mr. Carey and Mrs. Frehner, Mr R'ohan and Mrs. Watt, Mr. Wallace and Mrs. Hacche. A delicious supper was supplied by members of the club. Mr. Fred Hall proposed a toast to the club. PATUTAHI RESIDENTS EVENING The Patutahi residents on Thursday evening held a party in the Patutahi Hall for the country candidate, Miss Suzanne Field, in the “Popular Girl” contest. The stage was decorated with Phoenix palm fronds and bowls of arum lilies. On the supper table were bowls of daffodils. Miss Field wore a blue and white checked taffeta frock. Among the willing helpers were Mesdames A. W. Mossman, C. McFarlane, R. M. Fisken, A. E. Stevens, Bruce Wallis. W. J. Atkins, Walsh, H. H. Dods, Messrs. A. W. Mossman, R. A. Atkin, W. J. Atkin, J. Atkins, Monteith, J. Murnhy, C. H. Cooper, McDermott, A. F. Stevens, Rangi. Gedye, H. H. Dods, J. Fisken, and several others who combined to make the evening a success, A delicious' supper was served. PATUTAHI DINNER PARTIES On Thursday evening prior to the party in Patutahi for the Country candidate in the ‘‘Popular Girl” contest, Mrs. A. W. Mossman invited friends to her home for dinnerThe drawing-room was decorated with a trough of daisies and a bowl of sweet peas. In the hall was a bowl of jasmine and euphorbia, daffodils and Sol d’Or and lachenalias. On the mantelpiece in the dining room was a bowl of daisies and lachenalias, and on the table a bowl of daisies. Mrs. Mossman greeted her guests wearing a maroon crepe frock trimmed with blue. Mrs. H. H. Dods also entertained friends to dinner at her home at Eepongare. Poinsettias. japonica, scarlet camellias and bowls of spring flowers decorated the house. Mrs. Dods wore a brown woollen frock.

WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE The monthly meeting of the Women's National Reserve was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday with a good attendance of members. Remits from the National Council of Women were discussed and agreed to. It was decided to hold the annual collection of gifts for the women and children patients at Porirua Mental Hospital on Friday, August 20, the time and place to be arranged later. Members expressed pleasure that the women's rest room was to be built. Reference was made to the PanPacific conference at Honolulu as an effort on the part of women to understand people of.othre countries. The president. Mrs. Gotfe, said how much the late Miss Elsie Andrews would be missed there, as she had been an enthusiastic member of the association. Mrs. Hewetson read an interesting artcile on blood transfusion and the R.H. factor. Afternoon tea was enjoyed. PUHA YOUNG FARMERS’ FIRST ANNUAL BALL The Puha Hall was crowded with dancers last Saturday night for the Puha Young Farmers’ Clubs’ first annual fancy dress and masquerade ball. Many of the costumes showed much thought, some dancers being disguised until late in the evening. The highlight of the evening was the grand parade, during which Mesdames A. Newton and G. Bayley judged Miss Shona McNeil (gent) and Dave Calder (New Look) to be the winners. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss Joy Askew and partner. Included among the dancers were Mrs. T. Mitchell (Cheftain'ess), Mrs. A. Bayley (Milkmaid), Mrs. Rickard (Buttons and Bows). Mrs. E. Cranswick (Mabel); Misses C. Manuel (Old Lady), M. Manuel (Old Lady), M. Bayley (Pop), M.
