“Cobbler” Offensive To Boot Repairers

LONDON, May 20.
Delegates to the conference of the National Federation of Boot Trades’ Associations voted overwhelmingly amid cheers in support of a resolution ob.iecting to footwear makers and repairers being described as “cobblers.” The conference asked newspapers to stop using this “offensive” word. One delegate said cobbler meant clumsy workman. Another said the word cobbler was an integral part of the English language, and the resolution was only providing ammunition for .funny headlines.
