CARPENTERS’ DISPUTE HANDED BY N.Z. UNION TO F.O.L. AND PLEA FOR COURT INJUNCTION WAIVED

WELLINGTON, May 20. The New Zealand Carpenters and Joiners’ Union has handed over the Auckland carpenters’ dispute to the Federation of Labour for settlement, and sponsored a resolution unanimously adopted by the conference yesterday asking the Auckland carpenters to return to normal work.

Carpenters’ union officials told the conference that the application which was to have been made by officials of the deregistered union in the Supreme Court today for an injunction against the registration of the new union at Auckland would be withdrawn.

At the opening of the morning session yesterday Mr. F. L. Langley, of Christchurch, the national president of the Carpenters’ Union, said he wished to move the following resolution: “That the Auckland carpenters be requested to resume norma! work and that the dispute to handed to the Federation of Labour with a view to securing an early and satisfactory settlement.” The’official report said that this resolution was adopted unanimously.

The official report said that the stfer.ding orders were suspended at 5 p.irtT to hear a statement by Mr. Langley. He said that during the morning the Auckland carpenters’ dispute was handed to the. Federation of Labour and th& proceedings which were to have been taken in the Supreme Court today by the Auckland branch of his union were now being withdrawn. Mr. Langley said he had the assurance of the president of the federation, Mr. A. V/. Croskerv, that the matter could be discussed and a decision made by the conference in regard to the registration of the proposed new union when these proceedings were with- > drawn.

Mr. Croskery said that the withdrawal of the court proceedings would get rid of the. question of statements be'ng made on sub judice matters. Mr. R Stanley, the national secretary of the Carpenters’ Union, assured the conference that the proceedings were to be withdrawn and that instructions had already been given to that effect.
