Trivial Appeals Against Quotas : Power Board Firm

APPEALS against the individual power rations, of which notice is being circulated to consumers by the P.B. Electric-Power Board, will only be entertained if supported by convincing evidence of hardship. Appeals which are not supported in this way can ,) only be dealt with as trivial. A statement to this effect was made by the managing-secretary of the board. Mr. R. P. Baigent, who said that since the notices wfere dispatched to consumers in accordance with a recent decision of the board a number of objections had been received. In some instances the objections were obviously without merit, and in other cases where there might be some foundation for an appeal the applicants had failed to state clearly the grounds : on which they ■ depended. Fair Deal For Consumers “If applications for special relief were dealt with on the basis of some of these appeals the possibility of saving power during'the period bf winter restriction would be negligible,” said Mr. Baigent. “The individual rationing scheme was evolved with the aim of giving all consumers a fair deal, and of elimin- C ating circumstances in which some consumers’ economies were dissipated by others’ extravagance. “The board is under the necessity of limiting power consumption in the district, and is anxious that all consumers give the rationing - scheme a fair trial: Few households or businesses will escape (inconvenience altogether, but if adjustments in consumption can be made on the basis of the rationing u plan the board should be able to avoid the particularly inconvenient ' measures of the past two winters.” -
