COMPETITION KEEN IN PRACTICES ON ARCHERY RANGE

Keen competition was shown among the first-year competitors of the Gisborne Archery Club in the first practice shoot of the season on Monday night. Shooting was over a distance of 20 yards. The scoring being oven with Mrs. Douglas and S. Fisken heading the women’s and men’s sections respectively. The beginners’ trophy, the first round of which will commence next Monday night will consist of an American round, which consists of 90 arrows fired at 30 yards, reduced for this trophy to 20 yards. Forty-five arrows will be fired on Monday night and 45 the following week giving a possible score for the completed round;, of 810. In the second practice shoot for last year’s competitors held on Wednesday Mrs. Gedye led the women’s _ section and W. J. Burton the men’s section. The most notable scorer of the evening was J. Potaka, a B grade competitor of last season, whose 429 placed him high m the list. Wednesday night competitors are to commence the first round of the No. 1 Trophy next week, shooting GO arrows at 30 yards and a further 60 in the second round the following week, the possible score for the trophy being 1080 points. An attraction which has proved popular on practice nights is the air-rifle gallery. Two practice shoots have been held and handicaps are to be issued. A small trophy will be competed for each evening.
