MR. M. H. BEUTH (Rugby-Cricket)

JJOTII as an administrator and player, the chairman of the P.B. Rugby Union, Mr. M, 11. Beuth, has achieved considerable success in two branches of sport. One is Rugby and the oilier cricket. Joining the P.B. Rugby Union in 1941 as the primary schools’ representative, Mr. Beuth was in 1944 elected deputy-chairman. A year later he was elected to the office of chairman and he has held tha’t position up to the present. He has represented the union at annual meetings of the N.Z.R.U. since 1945. Since coming to Gisborne -Mr. Beuth has distinguished himself as a cricketer, having captained and represented Poverty Bay on a number of occasions. In addition he was on the executive of the P.B. Cricket Association.

Initial prominence in sport was gained bv Mr. Beuth while he was a pupil at the Napier Boys’ High School. A member of the school XV, he also had the distinction of representing Hawke’s Bay at cricket for two years while attending school. Mr. Beuth later represented and captained Hawke’s Bay teams and played for Country against Town at Wellington. On the executive of the Hastings Cricket Association, he later became the association’s representative on the Hawke’s Bay association.

A playing member of the Hastings Football Club, Mr. Beuth also represented Hastings sub-unions and Canterbury University College. As a Rugby administrator, he was the primary schools’ representative on the Hastings Sub-union and the schools’ representative on the Hawke’s Bay union.
